Gibraltar Cultural Services have launched their summer cultural programme for young people, as part of the GSLA’s summer sports, cultural and leisure programme.
A statement from GCS follows below:
Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS), on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, is delighted to launch a vibrant summer cultural programme for young people, as part of the GSLA’s summer sports, cultural and leisure programme.
This year, the GCS Development Team has curated a programme centred around the theme Books Without Borders, encouraging young people to discover new cultures, languages, and experiences through reading. The initiative aims to spark imagination and foster a lifelong love of books through stories from around the world.
The Summer Book Club returns to the John Mackintosh Library from 1st July, running every Wednesday from 11am to 12pm until 26th August. Open to children aged 8 to 14, the club offers a structured and engaging exploration of international stories and themes. Places are limited, and those interested are encouraged to contact the Development Team or the Library to register in advance.
To further encourage reading over the summer holidays, school children can be part of reading challenge by completing their Reading Passport, featuring a variety of fun reading activities. Completed passports returned at the end of summer will be entered into a prize draw. Reading Passports will be available from the John Mackintosh Hall Library and BOOKgem from 8th June.
For younger children, GCS storytellers will once again visit local parks and art galleries with interactive storytelling sessions for ages 3 and above. The programme will also include a variety of creative workshops such as papercraft, zine-making, Magic Garden, and Pop-Up Magic Book sessions.
