Together Gibraltar Calls For Long-Term Strategy To Support Gaming Sector

Together Gibraltar has called for a long-term economic plan to support Gibraltar’s gaming sector.
A statement from Together Gibraltar follows below:
On Wednesday, Party Leader Nick Calamaro published a piece in response to the UK Treasury’s debate around taxation of gaming companies. He called for a “holistic economic strategy that plays to our strengths, mitigates our exposure to outside shocks, and ensures Gibraltar doesn’t get left behind.”
The piece highlights the difficulties gaming firms face in recruiting locally and retaining skilled professionals, pointing to the impact of extortionate private rental costs and bureaucratic hurdles.
It calls on the government to expand and accelerate investments in technical skills training, similar to those being made in the Campo de Gibraltar area, and to learn from Spain’s digital nomad scheme. That initiative has been tremendously successful in attracting professionals who contribute to Spain’s economy through local spending, taxation, and active participation in local communities.
The article also described the recent suspension of residency permits as having “spooked” businesses and professionals, undermining confidence in Gibraltar as a place to live and work.
The full piece can be read in the Gibraltar Chronicle.
