GSD Calls For Update On Road To The Lines Project

The GSD have called on the Government to provide an update on plans for Road to the Lines.
A statement from the GSD follows below:
The Government is asked to state what current plans it has for Road to the Lines as the area is not showing any signs of progressing or being developed.
The development of Road to the Lines featured as a manifesto commitment at the last election when they promised that “a GSLP Liberal Government will continue with the project for the regeneration of Road to the Lines in order to create more homes”. It was also, at some point, the subject of an expressions of interest which did not then prosper.
It will be recalled that the GSLP 2023 manifesto linked the provision of studio spaces for artists “at a site adjacent to the old prison below the Tower of Homage” to the “renewal of the Road to the Lines and the Northern Defences”; with the latter project also seemingly taking an eternity to complete.
As matters stand, nothing has been done in respect of Road to the Lines, other than seeing the project being passed like an inconvenient hot potato from the Deputy Chief Minister, to Ms Orfila as Housing Minister to over the last few years, the Minister for Economic Development, Sir Joe Bossano.
Damon Bossino said: “At a time when so many people come to us with housing issues and when one considers that they would have voted for the GSLP, in part, on the promise of the creation of more homes in this area, the Government should either be providing details of when the project will be completed or advising people whether it will be scrapped in breach of yet another manifesto commitment.”
