Jan 20 - ERG Welcomes Parliamentary Announcement

The Chairman of the Equality Rights Group, Felix Alvarez, has welcomed the announcement in Parliament today by the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, in discussions on ERG’s Campaign for One Civil Marriage Law for All, that there will not be a Referendum to decide the matter. The ERG notes the recent campaign for a decision by referendum which has been mounted by those opposing same-sex marriage.

Jan 19 – ERG Congratulates Feetham And GSD

The Equality Rights Group says it welcomes the announcement by the Leader of the Opposition, Danny Feetham, in his New Year message, that both he, personally, and his parliamentary team fully endorse and support Government plans for the introduction of One Civil Marriage Law for All, and for which a consultation process is currently in progress and due to expire on 29 January.

Reaching Out to the Community

In a democracy providing good effective opposition is just as important as good effective Government and I believe we are well placed to perform that role.  We have a positive and energetic new team that love this community and the people in it.  Over the next year we will be reaching out to community groups and to all of you to better understand how you feel we can better represent you, your families and the community generally.  Whether it is through our weekly meetings with people who may want us to help them with their concerns or by meeting us for a chat, we hope you can get involved in trying to help us improve the way things are done in Gibraltar.

Jan 18 – Unite To Host Spanish Civil War Symposium Next Month

The Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939 had an important impact not just in the Campo de Gibraltar, but also in Gibraltar itself as a society. The Military uprising started very close to Gibraltar as Francoist forces disembarked in Algeciras. Its immediate impact was felt very closely due to its effect in La Linea. Many Spaniards in the area especially trade Unionist Republicans and Free Masons found refuge in Gibraltar from the beginning of the conflict.
