gsdThe GSD views with very serious concern the recent news that there will be redundancies at Saccone & Speed. Job losses are always an issue, which concerns the party because it affects people personally as well as the economy.

Opposition member for Commercial Affairs Damon Bossino believes that the previous buoyancy in Gibraltar’s economy cannot now be taken for granted. The party calls upon the Government to develop a strategy, which will boost sales not only in Main Street but also sustain Gibraltar’s economic well-being.

Mar 06 - Top Tax Expert Joins GSD Executive

gsdFollowing the restructure of the party, adoption of a new constitution by the party membership and election of its new executive, the GSD has announced the strengthening of an already strong executive by the inclusion of well-known and highly regarded local lawyer Chris White.

Chris White came to Gibraltar 20 years ago to assist in the revitalising of the Income Tax Office.  He was de facto Commissioner of Income Tax for three years.  When it was time to go back to the UK, he realised that he really wanted to stay here. Chris now works at Hassans, where he is regarded as one of the foremost tax experts in Gibraltar.

Mar 05 - 77 Spanish State Vessel Incursions into BGTW This Year

lidington In yesterday’s Commons debate on Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Labour MP for Heywood and Middleton Jim Dobbin questioned Europe Minister David Lidington on the number of incursions by Spanish state vessels in BGTW between December 2013 and now. Minister Lidington stated that there had been a total of 496 incursions throughout 2013, with 9 being carried out in December. This year there has been 77 unlawful incursions as of 28th February. Guardia Civil carried out 53 of these, with two being carried out by the Spanish Navy.

Mar 05 - Not Enough is Being Done by UK Government – Picardo Addresses Foreign Affairs Committee

foreign affairs committeeIn an abnormal meeting of the UK Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Select Committee, held in the Garrison Library this morning, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo highlighted the ‘excellent relationship’ shared between his Government and that of the UK. Answering questions from the panel, which could lead to a report on the issues being published, the Chief Minister said that results have shown that not enough is being done by the UK Government with regards to the Spain dispute, with frontier queues aas bad as ever. He spoke objectively on the matter, insisting that pedestrian queues in February had reached 90 minute waiting times.
