Apr 08 - Natwest Comes Forward As Official Sponsor For Island Games 2019
Preparations are underway for the Island Games and Natwest have shown its ongoing support by becoming the head sponsor for the 2019 Games held in Gibraltar.
The announcement was made during a meeting held earlier today and attended by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, Island Games Association Chairman Jorgen Pettersson, Gibraltar Island Games Association Linda Alvarez and Natwest Offshore’s Managing Director Steve Camm.
Ms Alvarez said a delegation from the International Island Games Association are currently in Gibraltar, meeting with the various sporting associations and scoping out which facilities can be used for the games held in three years time.
Mr Pettersson, who played volleyball for Aland in Gibraltar’rs 1995 Sunshine Games, said there are plenty of benefits for Gibraltar hosting the games including the fact that the Island Games will be the only multi-sport event being held in Europe that year, but cited accommodation as the main concern for all involved.
Mr Picardo welcomed Natwest’s ongoing support for the Island Games, and added: “It is very exciting for us to see the agreement between Gibraltar and the Games and the sponsorship agreement being signed which will see the Games through to 2019.
“I think the whole community will want to get behind the organisation of the Games and will thoroughly enjoy what is being planned for 2019.”
The Government of Gibraltar has pledged its support for the 2019 Island Games, and will continue to work with GIGA and IIGA to ensure up-to-date facilities are being provided for the athletes who are to arrive on the Rock for the Island Games.
