Nov 15 - Air Cadets On Parade
Last month, cadets and staff from No 2 Overseas (Gibraltar) Squadron Air Training Corps were inspected by Wing Commander Miller, Officer Commanding Norfolk and Suffolk Wing as part of their Annual Formal Inspection (AFI).
Wg Cdr Miller said: “Gibraltar Sqn is one of the biggest squadron’s within the Wing and continues to deliver great training to its cadets. This is evident in the great display tonight”.
He added: “It’s great to see so many parents here to support their children and the Squadron”.
Wg Cdr John Kane, Station Commander RAF Gibraltar, presented cadets with a number of awards including First Aid, Leadership and Classification badges. He said: “It is really great to see so many cadets here on parade” adding: “it takes me back to when I joined the RAF at the age of 16”.

“I can’t remember so many awards being awarded ever” Sqn Ldr Kevin Green, Sqn Wing Staff Officer said: “I’ve attended many AFI and Award evenings, this is by far the most awards I have seen presented”.
As part of the visit, Wg Cdr Miller was joined by Sqn Ldr Gail Jupe who is the Wing’s Training Officer: She said: “It has been a fantastic visit to the Squadron. On Friday morning I helped four new cadets register for their BTEC Level 2 in Teamwork and Personal Development. On Saturday we had older cadets on a Method of Instruction course and junior cadets on a Leadership course. The Squadron has made great use of our time on The Rock”.

Reflecting on the visit Wg Cdr Miller said: “I was delighted to be invited to the Squadron’s first Formal Dinner at Bistro Point on Saturday evening. It has been a busy few days with cadets taking advantage of the training given and a great way to finish our visit with a wonderful meal in a fantastic location, and the chance to award some more awards gained over the weekend”.
