Oct 30 - Olga Zammitt Retires From Calpe House

30 October 2018

Olga Zammitt, member of the Board of Calpe House Limited, has recently retired.

Mrs Zammitt is a retired Gibraltarian teacher and former Mayor of Gibraltar and joined the Board of Calpe House Trust on 9th July 2014.

Calpe House Limited will be welcoming a new board member, Jose Julio Pisharello.

A spokesperson said: "From the outset she was an asset to the Board, especially her ability to engage with Gibraltar’s youth and connect with local schools, which have over the years donated significantly to the charity. Mrs Zammitt played a pivotal role in making ‘new’ Calpe House at Norfolk Square a reality; she deserves huge credit for the success of this ambitious project. Indeed, the timing of her departure from the Board reflects her drive and determination to oversee the opening of Calpe House in July this year. Her wise insight, deep-rooted compassion and amiable disposition will be sorely missed by the charity, but its loss will be her family’s gain, with whom she wants to spend more time. The Directors and Trustees of Calpe House Limited offer genuine thanks for her sterling service over the years, and wish her well in all that she undertakes in the future.

"Mrs Zammitt’s departure will be softened, at least to some extent, by the arrival of a new and equally impressive Board member. The Directors and Trustees of Calpe House Limited are delighted to welcome Jose Julio Pisharello to the Board. The Senior Partner at Ernst and Young in Gibraltar, he has also previously been President of the Gibraltar Society of Accountants and, until very recently, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Gibraltar. Mr Pisharello is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and a Member of the Institute of Financial Services (Chartered Institute of Bankers).

"This impressive professional pedigree means that Mr Pisharello brings to the charity over a quarter of a century of accounting, audit and tax experience in Gibraltar. His skills, experience and energy, allied to his hard won reputation as a high integrity individual, will undoubtedly add value to the Board in an era of increasing compliance and transparency in the charitable sector. The Calpe House Limited Directors and Trustees offer a warm welcome to Mr Pisharello, and very much look forward to working closely with him in pursuing the best interests of the charity for the people of Gibraltar."
