GRA Signs Joint Statement On A Common International Approach To Age Assurance

The Gibraltar Regulatory Authority’s work, as the Information Commissioner, includes engaging with data protection and privacy authorities globally to discuss common themes and areas of interest. Amongst such areas is the protection of children, and particularly their personal data, online.
A statement from the GRA follows below:
Working together as part of an international initiative known as the International Age Assurance Working Group (“IAAWG”), several Global Authorities have drafted a joint statement with the aim of encouraging a common international approach to Age Assurance (the “Statement”).
The Statement sets out key shared principles and outlines the common goals and commitments from signatory regulators including: the UK Information Commissioner’s Office; the National Privacy Commission of The Philippines; the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada; the Public Information Access Agency from the National Authority for Personal Data Protection in Argentina; and the Transparency, Public Information Access and Personal Data Protection Institute of the State of Mexico and Municipalities.
The Information Commissioner hopes the Statement and associated work will encourage increased policy coordination internationally and improved regulatory clarity for relevant stakeholders in relation to the use of children’s personal data.
