Government Expresses Gratitude To Taxi And Bus Drivers For Exceptional Festive Services
The Ministry of Transport have extended its appreciation to all taxi and bus drivers who provided night services throughout the festive season.
A statement from the Government follows below:
The Ministry of Transport and the Gibraltar Bus Company offered a complimentary night bus
service from 20th December 2024 to 5th January 2025. The aim of this new initiative was to provide a reliable and safe mode of transport along with encouraging citizens to use public
transport.
The initiative was a success, with the Christmas Night Bus Service carrying 882 passengers, and peak usage being observed on Friday 20th December and Tuesday 31st December.
Additionally, the Ministry made arrangements for the Gibraltar Taxi Association to provide a 24-hour private hire service from 24th December 2024 to 6th January 2025, further enhancing transport options during the Festive Season.
Between 6pm and 6am during these dates, over 1750 trips were made, with at least 20 cars working on each of these days.
The Minister for Transport, the Hon Prof John Cortes, said: "I am really grateful to the Gibraltar Bus Company and the Gibraltar Taxi Association for their work over the Christmas and New Year season, and in particular to their drivers, who were hard at work while others enjoyed time off.
The Bus Company provides an excellent public service, which we must not take for granted.
The Gibraltar Taxi Association, as we can all see, is working extremely hard in countering past criticisms and proving that they too are an important part of our transport system that can be relied on by the community”.
