Gibraltar Rugby To Host National Team Camp At Europa Point Stadium

Gibraltar Rugby Football Union (GRFU) have announced the upcoming National Team Camp, set to take place at Europa Sports Park on 31st January and 1st February 2025.

A statement from the Gibraltar Rugby Football Union follows below:

This marks the first National Team Camp held in Gibraltar for several years, providing a significant opportunity to strengthen the local rugby community and prepare the national team for the upcoming season.

The camp will bring together national team players, including six under-20s players who have been invited to participate as part of their progression into senior rugby. Led by Technical Director Alun Harries and National Team Head Coach Lee Fortey, the camp will focus on skill development, team plays, and preparation for international fixtures, including planned home games against European opponents in March and April.

Community Engagement

The camp will also feature community outreach activities as part of GRFU’s commitment to growing rugby locally. On Saturday morning, the national team will host a joint coaching session with the women’s squad, followed by games and activities for younger age groups. These sessions reflect GRFU’s values of inclusivity and teamwork, showcasing rugby as a sport for everyone in Gibraltar.

Technical Director Alun Harries shared his thoughts:

"There are so many good people involved in Gibraltar rugby, doing so much good stuff - we aim to give everyone a platform and to thrive and enjoy themselves as a whole rugby community. This camp is about more than just preparing for upcoming matches; bringing the national team together with younger players and the women’s squad reinforces our commitment to developing rugby in the community and creating opportunities for everyone to get involved."

The camp also forms part of GRFU’s three-year plan for the national team, which includes more regular European fixtures and an 'Out of Europe' tour planned for the 2026/27 season. Players participating in the camp will have the chance to be selected for home games in March or April, which GRFU hopes will draw strong local support.

Camp Schedule Highlights:

- Friday, 31st January: Squad skills sessions and team-building activities, including watching the Six Nations opener (France v Wales).

- Saturday, 1st February: Joint coaching session with the women’s squad and age-grade players, followed by team play sessions and a social Six Nations viewing event (Scotland v Italy / Ireland v England).
