Governor’s Meadow Lower Primary Celebrates Neurodiversity Acceptance Week

Governor’s Meadow Lower Primary school recently hosted a series of engaging activities in celebration of Neurodiversity Acceptance Week.
A statement from the Government follows below:
This cause holds a special place in the school’s heart, as it not only serves seven Learning Support Facilities and welcomes outreach pupils from St Martin’s School, but also because many of the staff members are neurodivergent themselves.
At Governor’s Meadow, the commitment to neurodiversity extends far beyond just one week. The school is dedicated year-round to fostering an environment where pupils understand that everyone is unique, with differences that bring valuable skills and strengths. The challenges of neurodiversity are openly discussed, encouraging pupils to treat one another with kindness, empathy, and acceptance.
To end the week, Mrs. Montiel led a whole-school assembly where the children were dressed in bright colours to represent the spectrum of neurodivergence and all staff members wore matching t-shirts with the neurodiversity infinity symbol. The children learned that prominent figures like Greta Thunberg, Emma Watson, and Billie Eilish openly embrace their neurodivergent identities. Severalteachers also shared how different strategies help them navigate their own neurodivergent brains, emphasising that everyone can benefit from extra support at times—and that this is perfectly okay.
In a beautiful display of unity, staff and pupils collaborated on a mural featuring a tree trunk, with each person adding their handprint to represent the idea that while we may all be different, we are all part of the same community.
Part of the celebrations included a visit to the PossAbilities premises, where pupils had the chance to learn aboutthe incredible services offered to our community, further reinforcing the importance of inclusion.
Governor’s Meadow Lower Primary extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making Neurodiversity Acceptance Week such a meaningful and successful celebration!
