Government Welcomes Planning Permission for Sunrise Motel Extension

The Government says it notes the protest held today outside No 6 Convent Place and is sympathetic to the concerns of the residents of the Queen’s Hotel. However, Number Six says it is important to remember that the offer was extended to them to move to the Sunrise Motel, where only one dormitory had 8 beds, until its extension could be completed, but this offer was declined and residents chose to remain at the Queen’s Hotel.
A statement continued: “A significant programme of works is underway with a view to improving conditions at the Hotel and efforts to make it a safe living environment will be continuous.
“The Government welcomes today’s news that the proposed extension to the Sunrise Motel has been granted full planning permission by the Development and Planning Commission. When completed, this new facility will provide safe and comfortable accommodation for its residents that reflects Gibraltar’s shared values of community support and care for all."
