GGCA Marks May Day 2025: A Stronger Voice For All Workers In Gibraltar

Below follows the GGCA’s May Day Message:
The GGCA marks International Workers’ Day with a renewed focus on fairness, respect, and progress for workers across Gibraltar, in both the public and private sectors.
Our message is simple. Every worker deserves to be valued, heard, and protected.
This May Day, we recognise the contributions of all our members, civil servants, agency staff, and private sector employees – who form the backbone of Gibraltar’s economy and society. From office floors to front-line services, from logistics to IT, your work matters.
We also reflect on our recent joint gathering for May Day and Workers’ Memorial Day, held on Wednesday 23rd April. This was the first event under the leadership of our new President, Darren Cerisola. It marked the beginning of a new chapter for the GGCA, built on solidarity, visibility, and action.
“The GGCA exists to defend your rights, raise your voice, and deliver change,” said President Darren Cerisola.
“Our union is not here to follow trends. It’s here to set the tone for how workers are treated in Gibraltar. That means fair pay, fair terms, and a real voice at the table. We’re ready to raise the standard for all sectors and for the next generation.”
In the months ahead, the GGCA will continue to push for:
• Pay justice and transparency across all sectors
• Secure contracts and an end to unfair employment practices
• Better protections for agency and temporary workers
• A stronger voice for unionised staff in policymaking
• More investment in workplace wellbeing, skills, and dignity at work
May Day is not just about celebration. It is a moment to stand up for a better deal for all workers, not just today, but every day.
From all the team at the GGCA, thank you to everyone who stands with us. We welcome all who are ready to help build a fairer, stronger future.
Happy May Day.
