GHA Reaffirms Commitment to Constructive Engagement with Unite the Union

The Gibraltar Health Authority says it notes the recent statement issued by Unite the Union regarding grievance procedures within the organisation.
A statement continued: “The GHA recognises the importance of maintaining employee confidence in internal dispute resolution mechanisms. Where concerns have previously been raised, the GHA has taken active steps to strengthen the process, ensuring greater clarity, consistency, and fairness. One such step has been the recent appointment of the Government’s Director of Personnel and Development to oversee the GHA Workforce, with a clear mandate to strengthen grievance procedures and enhance staff welfare.
“As part of this commitment, the GHA will introduce a dedicated Industrial Relations Officer. This new role will provide a clear and direct point of contact for union engagement and will support the resolution of issues in a more collaborative and structured way.
“In relation to the specific case highlighted by Unite concerning the Critical Care Unit, the GHA is satisfied that due process was followed and that the procedures applied were in line with established policy and agreed frameworks.
“Nonetheless, in the spirit of transparency and partnership, the GHA is pleased to confirm the following steps:
- A comprehensive review of both collective and individual dispute resolution procedures within the GHA, including the use and application of the grievance process. This review will involve close engagement between the GHA and Unite to ensure shared understanding of current policies and practices.
- A review into the handling of the Critical Care Unit grievance, including an assessment of whether due process was appropriately followed.
“The GHA remains committed to open and constructive dialogue with Unite the Union and welcomes ongoing collaboration to strengthen workplace practices and reinforce trust in the grievance process going forward.”
