Ministry of Equality Announces Writing Initiative to Mark PRIDE Month

The Ministry of Equality announces the launch of, ‘Closets are for Clothes, not People’, a new writing initiative as part of PRIDE month and in collaboration with the Trends Group.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies are invited to write a short personal and reflective piece on this theme. The written accounts will then feature in a centrally located installation where they will be accessible to the public.

The aim of the initiative is to foster a better understanding of LGBTQ+ matters and experiences and to promote inclusion.

The deadline for responses is Friday 13th June.

Personal responses, which can be anonymous, are to be handwritten on a single one-sided A4 sheet of white paper. Responses can be handed in or sent to the Ministry of Equality’s address: Suite 951, 5th floor, Block 9, Europort. Participants can also hand in their responses at Trends, 84-90 Main Street. Anyone requiring any further information can contact the Ministry of Equality [email protected] or Tel: 20066819.

Founder and CEO of the Trends Group, Mr Bhisham Nihchalani, said: ‘We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Equality on this important initiative. At Trends Group, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire empathy and build stronger, more inclusive communities. ‘Closets are for Clothes, not People,’ gives voice to lived experiences that deserve to be heard and celebrated.’

Minister for Equality, the Hon Christian Santos, GMD MP, said, ‘I believe that this initiative will afford members of the LGBTQ+ community the opportunity to convey some aspects of our lived experiences. Sharing these experiences with the wider community in a way that is authentic and honest creates a space to understand each other. This can be a truly transformative experience which can enrich our social fabric and promote understanding and inclusion.’
