The Faculty of Philology at University of Sevilla hosted a talk yesterday titled “Las fronteras en la literatura gibraltareña”, given by Rafael Vélez Núñez, a professor at University of Cádiz specialising in English literature and cultural studies.
Vélez Núñez, who researches literary genres and identity in English literature, examined how Gibraltar’s unique geopolitical position influences its literary tradition.
His talk explored themes of border narratives, cultural hybridity, and linguistic intersections, as well as the postcolonial identity of Gibraltar, analyzing how its colonial past continues to shape its literary voice and cultural representation.
Organised as part of the Doctorate in Philological Studies, the talk contributed to ongoing research in Language and Culture in English-language Literature.
