Counselling And Psychotherapy Forum Gibraltar Holds First Annual General Meeting

The Counselling and Psychotherapy Forum (CPF Gibraltar) held its first Annual General Meeting on 2nd June 2025.
A statement from the Counselling and Psychotherapy Forum follows below:
It was a key step in ensuring that the structures and processes supporting the service are safe, effective, and responsibly managed.
Chair Genevieve Bossino-Soussi opened the inaugural meeting. This was followed by trustee Mark Montovio, who outlined the Forum’s constitution and its purpose: to promote professional dialogue, uphold ethical standards, and establish a register of qualified practitioners, adding “ Our goal is simple. We expect clear lines of responsibility, monitoring service quality and involving relevant stakeholders in decision making to improve outcomes.”
During the open-floor session, members raised various concerns. The challenges of registering as self-employed and the classification of counsellors under medical status by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) were the main topics highlighted. The unregulated use of the term “counselling” remains an important issue which can be harmful to both practitioners and the public. The Forum therefore is committed to actively pursue clarification and accountability from the relevant authorities to ensure proper regulation, professional recognition, and protection of the public.
Chair Genevieve Bossino-Soussi stated, “This AGM is a call to action. We are here to ensure that standards are upheld, and the public is protected.
Trustee Lourdes Ghio added, “We are here to advocate for our members and to ensure that the voices of qualified professionals are heard, the profession is recognised, respected, and properly regulated.”
