GGCA Strongly Defends the Value of Public Sector Workers in Response to ex-Principal Auditor’s Report

The GGCA, as the union representing a large proportion of Gibraltar’s public sector workforce, has reaffirmed its “unwavering belief in the dedication and vital contribution of Gibraltar’s public sector workers.”
A statement continued: “Civil servants across Gibraltar perform essential work under increasingly challenging circumstances, often going above and beyond their call of duty to ensure that public services are delivered in a timely and professional manner. Overtime, when worked, is not an indulgence; it is a necessity in departments that are often under-resourced or facing seasonal and crisis-driven workloads. These efforts are crucial in keeping Gibraltar running smoothly.
“The professionalism and integrity shown daily by so many civil servants are commendable. While the GGCA understands and accepts that public scrutiny and accountability such as that found in the ex-Principal Auditor’s report are important in any well-functioning, democratic system, we will always stand up for its members and for the critical work they do on behalf of the people of Gibraltar.
“We call for a more informed and respectful public dialogue around the role of the civil service.”
