RGP Officer Participates In UK Cyber Digital Development And Serious And Organised Crime Forums

RGP Acting Detective Superintendent Sean Perera last week participated in the UK National Serious and Organised Crime forum and this year’s International Cyber Digital Development forum, both of which were held concurrently in London.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
These forums are crucial for uniting leaders, practitioners, and experts from various sectors, including His Majesty's Government, UK policing, British Overseas Territories, Academia and other international partners, under the common objective of combatting the increasing and evolving threat of serious and organised crime.
The event was opened by UK National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) Serious Organised Crime Lead, Deputy Chief Constable Wendy Gunney, and the Director General (Operations) of the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) Rob Jones. Their opening remarks were followed by a ministerial address delivered by the UK Minister for Security, the Hon Dan Harvis MP. Discussions covered a range of critical issues, including National Security, Violence Against Women & Girls, Organised Immigration Crime, Drug Trafficking, Online Criminality and Artificial Intelligence.
The event provided a platform to bolster efforts against serious and organised crime through sustained determination, innovation, collaboration, and shared learning. It also showcased the application of specialised tactics and capabilities used to identify, disrupt, and address the increasingly complex threat posed by organised crime.
Commenting on the event, Mr Perera stated, "Every strategy discussed and every partnership forged directly contributes to safeguarding our community from the insidious reach of serious and organised crime.
“Our presence at this forum alongside key partners in the UK and further afield underscores our commitment to protecting the vulnerable and disrupting the illicit activities that threaten our community’s fabric, reinforcing Gibraltar’s efforts in the fight against local and transnational crime alongside other local policing demand."
The RGP’s participation in these forums was facilitated by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FC&DO).
