GSD: “Who is Next - the McGrail Inquiry Chairman?"

The GSD has said that the statement by the Chief Minister that he may, if he dislikes aspects of the McGrail Inquiry Report, take a Motion to Parliament to “repeat the absurd farce” that is happening on the Principal Auditor is “stunning.”
A statement continued: “On Thursday in a GBC Viewpoint programme Mr Picardo admitted that he could conceive of bringing a Motion akin to that that he has brought against the Principal Auditor to criticise any findings of the McGrail Inquiry that he does not agree with saying: “of course that possibility exists.”
"That is a scandalous position that shows his and the GSLP Government’s approach to things they do not agree with. The Inquiry was convened by the Government. It has been held in public with most of the evidence and submissions able to be seen by people. There has been obvious due process for all core participants who have said whatever they have wanted within that process. When it reports it will be important to learn from it rather than undermine it."
Leader of the Opposition, Keith Azopardi said: “It is absolutely stunning to already hear the Chief Minister say he is prepared to contemplate a Motion to criticise parts of the Report (and presumably its Chairman) in the same way that he has done with this Principal Auditor. It shows a disdain for processes even commenced by the Government. It is yet another signal to people charged with processes that either adjudicate on Government behaviour or can make critical findings of it or who have to hold Government to account that they should proceed with caution as this is a GSLP Government whose mantra is that “you are either with me or against me.” The GSD rejects such an approach to constitutional protections and institutions or this Tribunal. Once again this is a stark reminder of why this GSLP Government need to be replaced.”
