Testing of Gibraltar’s New Battery Energy Storage System to Begin Tomorrow

The Gibraltar Electricity Authority has announced that testing, commissioning and integration of the new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will commence tomorrow.
The first phase of controlled technical tests is scheduled to take place overnight on 2nd December, between midnight and 06:00 hrs. While the likelihood of disruption to electricity supply remains low, the GEA notes that there is a small possibility of temporary power interruption during certain test stages. The tests shall then continue throughout the next two weeks throughout all operational hours of the power station, with once again there being a small possibility of temporary interruption.
The testing programme forms part of the system’s commissioning process ahead of full operation. The GEA will continue to monitor performance closely and will provide further updates if required.
