Ministry of Equality Marks the Start of Golden Week

The Ministry of Equality has marked the start of Golden Week with an information and awareness- raising campaign at the Piazza this morning.
The Ministry of Equality was supported by the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and GibSilver, and all organisations were able to share their respective literature and chat with passersby about the various support services that are available for older members of the community.
Golden Week starts today, with several activities throughout the course of the week, and culminates on Friday with the Ministry of Equality’s ‘Golden Breakfast’ which includes live entertainment and free churros and coffee for those over 65 at the King’s Diner at King’s Bastion.
Golden Week builds upon the work carried out by the Ministry of Equality in October to mark the International Day of Older Persons and aims to continue building belonging and fostering positive connections. The theme for Golden Week is, ‘Because Growing Older isn’t Growing Lonelier.’
Minister for Equality, Christian Santos, said: ‘Golden Week is an opportunity to celebrate the older members of our community who have helped to build a safe, prosperous and stable community. It is also an opportunity to highlight the services that support older persons and to signpost them accordingly. It is important for older members of our community to feel included and valued. The approaching festive season can be a difficult time for those who feel lonely and we want to ensure that everyone in the community feels that they can reach out for support.”
