Visit to Digital Skills Academy

Minister for Education John Cortes made a visit to the Europort Digital Skills Academy, accompanied by its Director, Stewart Harrison, to see the work done by various classes.
Two groups of learners were undertaking the lessons during the visit. Group 1 was a Kodulab class. Learners are in school years reception to year 3 and learn the fundamentals of programming through block based coding making their own game. Classes were led by Lauren Chipolina and Roxanne Martos, both Computer Science teachers.
Group 2 was a Roblox Studio class. Learners are in school years 5 - 9 and produce their own Roblox game using the Studio platform. The platform allows them to build their game environment and then program the features of it using scripting and code. This class was led by Owen McGonigal who is a current student at The Academy and has published various games.
The Academy is currently in its fifth year offering classes and certifications in Digital Art, Coding, Game Design, Python and Cybersecurity.
The Minister for Education, John Cortes said: "The Digital Skills Academy continues to do excellent work in an area of great importance for the present and future. We are looking at ways in which the Academy can work ever closer with the Department of Education in order to support and enhance training of children and young people in digital skills.”
