David Chevasco To Launch Three Books Later This Month

On February 23rd at 4:30pm in the Fine Arts Gallery, David Chevasco will be launching three books: Six Memoirs of a Childhood in Gibraltar, The Early Poems of a Travelling Gibraltarian, and, finally, a second collection of poems published in December 2025, Observations of Asia, of weakness, and of home.
A statement from the author continued: “While the first two were published in late 2024, they were never officially launched, nor have they enjoyed much advertising locally. Six Memoirs is a small collection of semi-autobiographic short stories that depict experiences, people and places connected to the author in the 80s and early 90s. Each of the six stories is 1000 words long and are also intended for learners of English as they include glossaries and comprehension questions and answers.
“The Early Poems collection includes poems written from 1996, when David was only 15 years of age, to 2006. It covers a span of 10 years, which includes phases of early adolescence, of life in the UK, in Italy, and in the neighbouring town of La Linea. There are poems in English, in Spanish, and three in Italian, and, interestingly, the first part of the collection is illustrated by David’s mother Karen: an author and artist in her own right.
“The final book, Observations of Asia, of weakness, and of home, as the title suggests, contains poetry about living and travelling in Asia, overcoming illness and mental distress, family connections, especially as tributes to the author’s grandparents, and home referring to Gibraltar and nearby Andalucia. The Japanese influence can be seen in his choice of using Haikus, written in Spanish, to represent simple yet poignant observations and emotions.
“David will be in Gibraltar for three weeks, as he recruits and chaperones Japanese university students for the biannual study abroad programme hosted by the University of Gibraltar, and will be reading extracts from his short stories and poems on the day of the launch as from 5:15pm. He would be very happy to see you there and share this experience with you.”
