Jun 06 - Feetham Lectures Jaen Economic Society Members on Gibraltar
Opposition leader Daniel Feetham acted as a guest speaker at a conference on Gibraltar, from the perspective of Gibraltarians, held in Jaen earlier this week at the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País in Jaén.
Mr. Feetham’s presentation touched upon many of the myths brought about by the Spanish press, on Gibraltar, including the claim that the Rock was a ‘centre of money laundering and a non-compliant jurisdiction’. He further went on to demonstrate that measures implemented by the current PP Governemnt in Spain have served to affect the Spanish in a negative way.
He went on to reiterate 'his long held view that Gibraltar and the Campo have a symbiotic relationship that can be exploited for the benefit of the ordinary man in the street if we simply concentrate on what we have in common and not on what divides us’.
Attendees were intensely interested in the topics brought up by Mr. Feetham, pleased to hear that Gibraltar has gained for itself a solid reputation as a properly regulated Financial Centre and is continuously expanding, with regards to tax information exchanges and the great deal of them that have already been signed with the rest of the world.
Commenting on his lecture, Mr. Feetham said that he intends to continue taking his message to Spain, in order to defend Gibraltar ‘in the way the GSD has always done - in a calm, mature and intelligent way using reason and argument’.
