Jun 25 - Tennis Star Amanda To Play In Wimbledon Championships
Amanda Carreras has won a wildcard entry into this year’s Wimbledon Championships which begin next week, the second occasion that she has been selected to play at the All-England Club. Although she is now based in Barcelona, she qualifies as a British player on the basis of her Gibraltarian birth.
In 2008 she became the first non-Spaniard to win the Spanish Tennis national Championships which propelled her into the Senior Ladies Circuit. She was also selected to represent Great Britain in the 2008 European Championships.
Amanda is now ranked as 6th in Great Britain and 302nd in the world rankings – her highest-ever position.
‘It is great to see a Gibraltarian so high up the world rankings, said Steven Linares, Minister for Sport.
‘We all wish Amanda well in this year’s Wimbledon Championships.’
