The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
Two men were challenged by officers of HM Customs on Friday evening after being seen north of Eastern Beach. They were seen carrying black holdall and began running north towards the frontier fence. Officers gave chase and retrieved the two bags; the two men made good their escape empty-handed into Spain.
The Spanish Supreme Court has upheld the validity of a hefty 1.7 million euro fine imposed by Spain’s council of ministers on Jyske Bank Gibraltar Ltd. The fine relates to the alleged refusal by the bank to provide customer information as part of a money laundering investigation which was launched by Spain in 2007.
