Dec 13 - British Sign Language Level 2 Certificates Awarded

sign languageHis Worship the Mayor Tony Lima yesterday hosted an afternoon tea to honour eleven students who had completed, and passed Level 2 of their British Sign Language course. The individuals were each presented with their certificates at the reception, which was also attended by members of the Gibraltar Hearing Impaired and Tinnitus Association and Minister for Equality Samantha Sacramento. At the event, His Worship insisted that it was important for him to recognise the very important role that the association has played for those members of the community that are deaf or hard of hearing.

Dec 13 - New Bat Species for Gibraltar

bat speciesA new species of bat to Gibraltar, the Isabelline Serotine Eptesicus isabellinus, was captured during a recent netting session at the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens.

This is one of the highlights of a collaborative study of Gibraltar’s bats by the Gibraltar Museum and GONHS with the help of a team of specialists from the UK. The project, supported by the Ministry for the Environment aims to establish a better understanding of our local bats' habits and monitor resident and non- resident species over the next three years.
