The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
This week the members of the Gibraltar Port Authority are attending IP Week events in London in order to promote Gibraltar’s services to senior representatives from the oil and gas industry. The Opposition says that the announcement last week in Parliament that the shares formerly held by the Slovenian entity in Gibtelecom had been purchased by the Gibraltar Savings Bank “raises important questions which directly relate to the concerns raised by the Opposition in relation to the state of our public finances.”
