The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
UK’s Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley has called for debate over Gibraltar/ Spain Frontier issues. He insisted that it needed to be carried out at ‘European Level’ with discussions about a system for the free and sustainable circulation of people and workers. Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento last week attended meetings in London as part of her role on the regional committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Women (CPW).
Amongst other things, this committee seeks to find ways of increasing female representation in parliament but, in this most recent meeting, there was also discussion of a CPW regional conference to be held in Gibraltar in February 2015.

The Gibtelecom Board met late last week to successfully complete the buy-back of Telekom Slovenije’s 50 per cent shareholding in the Company, by the Gibraltar Government. This followed the signing of a Share Purchase Agreement between the two parties on 17 November 2014.
