A statement follows below:
After an incredible journey spanning more than 1,200 kilometres, the Lourdes to Gibraltar charity cycling team is scheduled to arrive in Gibraltar on Saturday 24th May at 12:00 noon, culminating their inspiring ride for Brain Tumour Research and Kidney Care Gibraltar.
The cyclists, who began their challenge on 15th May, will be warmly welcomed at Casemates Square by representatives of the two charities they have been tirelessly raising funds and awareness for.
This event marks the final leg of their remarkable journey, which has tested their endurance, spirit, and commitment to two causes that affect countless lives.
The team is extending a heartfelt invitation to the Gibraltar community to join them at Casemates to celebrate their arrival. Their aim is simple: to personally thank everyone who has supported them throughout the challenge, whether through donations, messages of encouragement or simply spreading the word that ‘early diagnosis saves lives’
“The support we have received has meant the world to us,” said Jimmy Alcantara who organised the event.
“This ride was never just about the distance, it’s about making a difference of raising awareness that early diagnosis saves lives. We couldn’t have been able to have done this without our community behind us.”
Lynette Rodriguez, a local fund raiser for Brain Tumour Research said “We are incredibly grateful to the cyclists. Your dedication not only raises essential funds for Brain Tumour Research, but also shines a light to the importance of awareness. Together we we are making strides to finding a cure and supporting those affected by this challenging condition. Thank you”
A spokesperson for Kidney Care Gibraltar said "We would like to extend out deepest gratitude to this group of incredible cyclists. Your unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have not only raised vital funds but have also raised the profile of kidney disease and the importance of early diagnosis.
Your journey has been nothing short of inspiring, showcasing the power of community and impact of collective action. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you for your commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by kidney disease. Sincerely, Thank You.”
Donations are still welcome and can be made via the team’s fundraising page. Every contribution helps support vital research and care initiatives for those affected by brain tumours and kidney disease.
Join us at Casemates this Saturday – be part of the finish line and the beginning of greater impact.
