May 14 – Excitement Is Building Ahead Of Gibraltar Music Festival

This year’s two-day Gibraltar Music Festival featuring headline acts Duran Duran and Kings of Leon is anticipated to be the biggest yet, expecting crowds of up to 15,000 people.

Excitement has been building on social networks for the first announcements of acts performing on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September at the Victoria Stadium.

Other acts announced are Estopa, Tom Odell, Rae Morris, The Feeling, Lawson, Third World, and local acts including Reach, Strange Brew, Tim Garcia featuring Afterhours and Paddy Taylor, with many more acts still to be announced.

Speaking at City Hall earlier today, Steven Linares, Minister for Culture, alongside organisers Jonathan Scott and Owen Smith from Word of Mouth and Dylan Ferro from Axle Media, are excited for the upcoming event, after last year’s sold-out festival drew in a crowd of 11,000 people.

Minister Linares said:  “I am really excited that so many famous bands and artists that are of a high caliber are coming to Gibraltar.  Social media has been going beserk.

“We are trying to make this festival match any other festival around the world.”

More than 1,400 people attending last year were from outside Gibraltar, as shown in research carried out on the day, and Minister Linares is expecting this year’s two-day event to bring even more crowds from Spain and the UK primarily.

Working together with the Ministry for Culture, the organisers are trying to increase numbers to 15,000 people.

Jonathan said this year’s event will have more of a festival feel, with more events held in other parts of Gibraltar beyond the main venue.

Owen added: “We are trying to organise this year’s event so that people can enjoy the Gibraltar as much as they will the festival.”

While the organisers are expecting up to 50 acts playing across three stages, Dylan is encouraging festival-goers to support the local acts.

Tickets are now on sale for the Gibraltar Music Festival, and are priced at £65 for each day or £79 for the weekend pass. VIP tickets will set you back at £250 for each day or £300 for the weekend pass. There will also be a Very VIP area for corporates and dignitaries.
