June 14 - Caruana Heads Queen's Birthday Honours

Her Majesty the Queen has been graciously pleased to approve the appointments of:

Peter Richard Caruana QC - Politician, barrister and former Chief Minister, Gibraltar - to be a Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) for services to Gibraltar.

Haim Judah (James) Levy QC - Lawyer and founder, Gibraltar Community Care Ltd, Gibraltar - to be a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the economy and to the community in Gibraltar.

Jun 14 - Upper Town Renewal Projects Tabled at DPC Meeting

dpcDuring this morning’s monthly meeting of the Development and Planning Commission, a number of Upper Town regeneration projects, funded by the Government were tabled for comment. Outlining the recently announced St. Bernard’s first and Middle School plan, project manager Chris Riddell explained that works to rid the former St. Bernard’s Hospital building of asbestos had already begun.

Jun 14 - Regiment Troops Parade for Queen's Birthday

queenAn annual parade to celebrate the Queen’s official 87th Birthday was carried out yesterday evening in Grand Casemates Square. The event was kicked off with The Band and Corps of Drums of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment marching onto the parade ground with The Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. The bands were eventually followed by The Queen’s and Regimental Colours of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo then arrived, followed by His Excellency the Governor who received the Keys of Gibraltar from the Port Sergeant and then went on to inspect the parade. The event also saw a 21-gun salute and 3 cheers for Her Majesty the Queen, carried out.

June 14 - A Bigger And Better Calentita Night

The Ministry of Culture has been working closely with the ‘Word of Mouth’ production company in order to provide a more entertaining programme for ‘Calentita Night.’ This year’s gastronomy festival will be held on Saturday 22nd June, starting at 8pm.

In line with a manifesto commitment to improve the event, this year’s festival- goers can expect a variety of spectacular entertainments rather than a programme which focusses largely on a fireworks display.
