Oct 29 - Government Purchases Former Rowing Club Site for £3 Million

govt crestThe Government has announced a number of transactions in the public interest in order to make way for housing and car parking for our people.

The Government has purchased the ex-Mediterranean Rowing Club (MRC) site in Glacis Road for £ 3 million. Their intention is to develop the site primarily for car parking with the provision of hundreds of car parking spaces for residents of the area including Glacis and Glacis Road, for the marinas and businesses of the area and for the general public. There may be office or residential units above the car park and the ground floor will be earmarked for commercial use.

Oct 29 - Gibraltar Hosts First Comedy Festival Dubbed 'Comedy Rocks'

London Musical comedy cabaret double act ‘Frisky & Mannish’ will take to the stage on Friday 8th November with their style of parody consisting of ‘shrewdly crafted, expertly delivered and rapturously received observations on pop music’.

Oct 29 - GFA International Friendlies Fixtures

gfaThe GFA has today announced a selection of International friendly matches to be played by the Gibraltar FA ‘A’ team. The team will face Slovakia on the 19th November at the Estadio de Algarve in Portugal. They will then play the Faroe Islands in the 1st March 2014 at the Victoria Stadium. Further matches will be played against Estonia on the 5th March and 26th May 2014 in the Victoria Stadium and then in A. Le Coq Arena in Estonia.

Oct 29 - GSD Express Concern Over Upper Rock Nature Reserve

upper rock The Opposition has today questioned the effectiveness of Environment Minister Dr. Cortes’ announcement that systematic searches take place as part of the Upper Rock Surveillance Monitoring Programme, following reports of illegal traps, by members of the public. Shadow Minister Jaime Netto has also received claims that individuals have bought exotic pets and abandoned them in the Upper Rock, whilst the perennial problem of feeding of the Barbary macaques continues.

Oct 29 - Five Customs Arrests for Tobacco and Drug Smuggling

customsIn three separate incidents, Customs Officers recently arrested five men in relation to drug and smuggling offences. The first instance saw 23-year-old La Linea resident Sebastian Gil Seliva arrested for the possession of 1.1 gram of Cocaine, which was found as he walked through the land frontier. He will appear in the Magistrates’ Court charged with the importation and possession of a controlled drug.
