The European Commission has today given assurances to Julie Girling, Member of the European Parliament for South West England and Gibraltar, that the lengthy border delays of recent years will become a thing of the past following the reconstruction of the vehicle and passenger crossing point between Gibraltar and Spain.
The GSD Opposition has today described the Motion by the Chief Minister suggesting that the Leader of the Opposition misled Parliament, as “another attempt to divert attention away from the refusal by the Chief Minister to be transparent over Credit Finance Company Limited and the £400 million of savers’ money invested in it.”
The GSD says it notes that the Government has commenced legal action in the Spanish courts for rectification and correction against the Spanish daily newspaper ABC in relation to various defamatory remarks made against Gibraltar. Provided that the Government is in possession of advice that the claim is a sound one in law, the GSD Opposition says it is entirely supportive of this step.
The Government has said that it has already been in contact with GBC in an attempt to organise a televised debate on public finances and that the details of this are “in the final stages of organisation.” The Government has suggested Thursday 23rd April as the prospective date of a televised debate on public finances on GBC’s Viewpoint programme but would remind the Opposition that they have been free to call a debate on this issue in Parliament at any time.
