The plan to issue cross-border workers with a special pass that would allow them to use the red lane to “fast-track” their transit though the Gib-Spain frontier has been described as a total failure after it was revealed that only 100 workers have signed up. This would only represent a tiny fraction of the thousands of workers who cross over every day.

The GSD says it congratulates the GHA on the adoption of new medical registration regulations that govern the registration of both private and public sector doctors practicing medicine in Gibraltar. As per the UK, they will now need to be licensed with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK via the Medical Registration Board in Gibraltar. This “inspires confidence”, says the Opposition, and provides reassurance for the general public knowing there is always a higher tier of appeal that governs best practice in medicine and the adherence to evidence-based medicine determined by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
The GSD says it notes what it calls the “extraordinary reaction” from No. 6 Convent Place to the Leader of the Opposition’s New Year Message. The party says that the response “betrays a nervousness that simply reinforces valid concerns by people” as to the Government’s management of the public finances of this community. It is also understandable, says the Opposition, that there should be those concerns when, according to the Chief Minister, “we went from financial ruin to the land of milk and honey in only a few months after the last General Election with the Government spending money as if it were about to go out of fashion.”
