Mar 04 - Government Insists GSD Subsidised Therapies Approach is ‘Inconsiderate’

In response to the GSD’s recent statement calling on the administration to confirm its position on therapies subsidised by the GHA, a Government statement has claimed that the party is seriously lacking in experienced MPs on the front bench and has scored another own goal.

A statement goes on to note, ‘In questioning the aim of the Government to provide additional services, the GSD takes a dog in the manger approach and suggests that when it comes to such services, it must be all or nothing. This clearly indicates that the GSD would wish to deprive all those benefiting from oxygen therapy and using NaPro technology just because the Government does not offer every possible form of alternative treatment. What a narrow-minded and inconsiderate approach from Mrs Ellul-Hammond.

Mar 01 - GSD Fishing Dispute Response

GSD Statement on Fishing Dispute:

‘It is very convenient for the GSLP-Liberal Government to blame the previous GSD Government for its own failings on a wide range of issues and for the real mess they are getting Gibraltar into. This is no more evident than the latest tirade Press Release on the fishing controversy.

It is not true that the Leader of the Opposition has undermined the position of the Government in the Spanish press. The Leader of the Opposition has simply restated in an interview with Europa Sur the GSD position in a careful and measured way.  The interview is posted www.gsdlive.com for everyone to read and come to their own conclusion.

Mar 01 - GSD Calls for Clarification on GHA Subsidised Therapies

The Opposition is calling upon the Government to clarify its position on the funding of non-evidence based complementary therapies, and to state what eligibility criteria the Minister for Health employs when determining the therapies which will be subsidised by the GHA.

Feb 28 Gibraltar up to date in EU directives transposition

The Government is pleased to announce that for the first time ever Gibraltar is completely up to date in the transposition of EU directives.

This achievement reflects the priority that the Government has given to this matter since being elected into office on 9 December 2011. There were 43 directives pending implementation at that time which were passed due the date allowed for transposition, including 8 which were already subject to an infraction procedure. Moreover, throughout the fourteen months since then, a further 19 directives were transposed, so that a total of 62 directives have been transposed during this period.

In order to achieve this historic milestone for Gibraltar, the Government has recruited and increased compliment of the number of legal drafters in the European Union and International Department (EUID) and restructured that Department.

The lawyers and staff of this Department, under Chief Legal Advisor Michael Llamas QC, have worked extremely hard in order to ensure that the policy objective of the Government of full transposition of every outstanding directive on the relevant EU list has now been met.
