The Bluefin Tuna Open Season has now recommenced.
To date the total amount of Bluefin Tuna Thunnus thynnus landed this season stands at approximately 13.6 tonnes. The Total Allowable Catch (TAC, or ‘quota’) has been increased in accordance with the recent increase in quotas set by ICCAT (the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas) to 19.81 tonnes.
The Government has today launched a hard-hitting campaign designed to drive home the importance of being cautious given the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. While this message is relevant to everyone, it is targeted particularly at young people, given the number of parties and gatherings taking place at this time of the year.
The Government says that, so far, over a hundred Covid-19 tests are being carried out every working day at the mobile testing station.
