As the final countdown begins to the 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin, Special Olympics Gibraltar athletes are training hard for the challenge, in the 8 sports in which they will be competing.
The Senior Men’s National Cricket Squad are in Cartaxo, Portugal where they have taken part a T10 tri-series in which they faced hosts Portugal and the Netherlands. There were very good performance in both matches most notably from the younger players in the squad.
The U20 Men’s Volleyball squad is en route to Andorra where they will be competing in a Small Countries Association (SCA) tournament. Asides from the hosts they will face opposition from Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
Local boxers took part in an event in San Roque this weekend. Tyrone Buttigieg, making his professional debut, beat his opponent over four rounds with a score in his favour of 40-36. The Montegriffo brothers Kriss and Evan also participated and won their respective bouts.
