The Government says it warmly congratulates the President of the Commonwealth Games Gibraltar Charles Flower on receiving a Gold pin and Order of Merit Award from the Commonwealth Games Federation. Mr Flower has been awarded this honour in recognition of over 60 years service to sport on the Rock. He was Gibraltar’s first ever athlete to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958.
Education Minister for the Gibraltar Government, Gilbert Licudi will be present at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games tomorrow evening, in representation of the Chief Minister who is unable to attend.
The Minister for Sport after recommendation from a panel comprised of members of the Board of the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority, HM Government’s Chief Secretary and the Human Resources Manager, is pleased to announce that Reagan Lima currently the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer has been appointed Chief Executive Officer effective from 1 September 2014.
Following the success of the Thundercats British National Championships held in Gibraltar last year, the freshly formed Gibraltar Team will once again participate in the competition, with team members Leslie Figueras and Albert Perez manning their new vessel, purchased with the help of funding from the Ministry for Sport and Culture.
