The Gibraltar National Dance Team rocked Germany by being crowned World Champions at the recent World Show Dance Championships. The event was staged in Riesa, with 3,301 dancers from 34 nations taking part. The event was organised for the renowned world governing body the International Dance Organisation (IDO) by the Germany Dance Federation (TAF), FSVG Riesa and a good friend of Gibraltar, IDO Vice President Michael Wednt.
Both the Minister for Culture Steven Linares and His Worship the Mayor Tony Lima have congratulated the Gibraltar National Dance Organisation Team for placing first in Junior Duet category. A team made up of Bella Gomez and Sarah Anne McLaren took Gold in the IDO’s World Championships, being held in Riesa Germany.
With snooker matches continuing down at The Crucible over the past few weeks, Mark Brooker of the 1st division stood up against Steve Webber, winning 2 – 1. Andrew Garnett beat Rich Ammonds 2 -1, with Rich only finding his form in the last frame. Another surprise was Sean Galligan’s 2 -1 win against Lee Prickman. Chris Shimidzu failed to hold on to Mukesh Bahkru as Mukesh secured the only 3-0 result of the round.
The UK’s Culture Secretary Maria Miller this week congratulated the Gibraltar Football Association on the National side’s 0 – 0 draw with Slovakia last week, in their first official match as a UEFA recognised team. The Daily Mail today reports that Ms. Miller ‘taunted Spain by hailing a ‘historic’ match played by Gibraltar’s football team last week’.
