Following a recent public protest, carried out by local and Spanish activists and Union leaders on the issue of unfair treatment and disproportionate queues at the frontier, a further demonstration is set to take place in Brussels next week.
Customs officers challenged a Spanish National at the North end of Eastern Beach as he made his way towards the frontier fence carrying a large black bag, earlier this week.
The man dropped the bag and attempted to flee the scene but was captured by Customs and arrested after a search of the bag and surrounding area resulted in the find of 9,000 cigarettes.
As from the beginning of February, the former Airport Carpark is set to house buses, and will no longer act as a public car park. The temporary coach park will then be closed entirely, when it reverts to the Ministry of Defence under the 2004 and 2011 Lands Agreement.
Gibtelecom yesterday announced their plans to purchase the Haven building at John Mackintosh Square on a 150-year lease, for £5.8 million. The building recently housed the Treasury and is half owned by the Government of Gibraltar.
