The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
The Cross Frontier Group, made up of Trade Union and business representatives from both sides of the border, have agreed to write to the European Commission in order to point out ‘the non compliance of the time limit set to normalise this matter and to ask for definitive action which would guarantee the rights of Citizens in this area of the EU.’
According to the Mayor of Algeciras, the use of sand from Valdevaqueros to regenerate the beaches of Algeciras is “fantastic, a joy, a gift”, but when it is to be used for the same purpose in Gibraltar, environmentalist groups describe it as a “plunder”, tantamount to “selling a part of the Alhambra”
