The cooler weather heralded by the autumnal month of October certainly did not bring about a major cooling off of military activity in Gibraltar. The aviation scene maintained a similar tempo to recent months and at sea there was a less noticeable but still interesting amount of activity with one very special guest making a much-welcomed return to our shores.

With the heat of midsummer came a steady rise in the amount of military visits to the Rock. In the air some old friends returned and at sea some new faces were seen including one long-expected visit which might, just, be a game changer for our future as a naval base.

The rise in temperature in July was matched by an exponential rise in arrivals to RAF Gibraltar which broke all records for recent years. Sadly activity at sea was close to nonexistent so it really was a month of two halves.
On the water, our only MoD visitor was the charter Ro-Ro Hartland Point which arrived on the 16th of the month.

What it is
When I saw the video of George Floyd’s murder, I felt the same as millions of people across the world felt. Who can watch a police officer kneeling on the neck of a black man until his death and feeling anything other than disgust and anger? I thought that I can’t have been the only one in this community of 30,000 people, but even if I were, it was worth holding some form of public demonstration.
