The deadline for submissions to be considered for the Newton Creative Award for Music is now over. Organisers say that they have received 27 entries in the 3 different age groups, with 12 entries from St Joseph's Middle School and 7 entries from St Anne's Middle School.

Preparation for the event of a Radiation hazard was this morning carried out in the test of the Nuclear Emergency Response Plan that would be jointly implemented between the MoD and the Gibraltar Government. The training exercise involved a gamut of emergency services and high profile MoD personnel, as well as Minister Linares and Dr Cortes, who is the chairman of the Radiation Response Committee. With chants of the 500 strong gathering of GFA fans, and local supporters filling the Estadio do Algarve in Portugal’s Faro, the team played strong defence in their first ever UEFA Friendly against Slovakia, last night.
With a final score of 0 – 0, GFA head coach told local and International Media that it was a dream come true and a dream start for the team. He added, ‘we were just hoping for the counter-attack and that is the game we played. [Slovakia] are very high in the ranking and to come here and get a draw is a dream come true.’
Following the recent typhoon in the Philippines, the Rotary Club of Gibraltar has this week made a £2,000 donation to 'ShelterBox'. This is an international disaster relief charity specialising in emergency shelter provision for people in times of crisis.
‘As the George Cross for Gibraltar Campaign gathers increasing momentum in Britain, Peter Robinson, First Minister of Northern Ireland, has given his full support to the Campaign and has expressed warm wishes for its success,’ Equality Rights Group Chairman Felix Alvarez stated in a press release today.
In his letter to the ERG Chairman and UK supporter Kevin Kelway, the Northern Ireland First Minister says that ‘As one who fought long and hard for special recognition of the heroism and fortitude shown by the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC I am pleased to support the campaign to award the George Cross to the territory and the people of Gibraltar. I am happy to associate myself with this campaign.’
Yesterday evening, His Worship the Mayor Anthony Lima held a Reception in honour of the Moroccan Community in Gibraltar.
In addition to recognising the important contribution made to Gibraltar by the local Moroccan Community over many years, His Worship took the opportunity to join the Moroccan Community in celebrating the Feast of Achour, for the Muslim New Year.
Exercise Rocky Pigeon 13 will take place today. This test of the Nuclear Emergency Response Plan in Gibraltar will be carried out jointly by the Government and British Forces Gibraltar and will take place within the Naval Base and inside No 6 Convent Place.
