Feb 09 – Royal British Legion In Gibraltar Elects New Chairman

The Royal British Legion (Gibraltar Branch) has announced that Lt Col (Retd) Francis Brancato OBE JP has been elected as the new Chairman of the Branch.

The vacancy has arisen due to the recent passing away of Solomon (Momy) Levy MBE ED JP who had held the position of Branch Chairman for over 20 years.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) was founded by veterans after the First World War. A century on from the start of that conflict, the Legion is still helping today's service men and women, veterans, and their families in almost every aspect of daily life.

“Although we champion Remembrance, safeguarding the memory of those who have given their lives for our freedom through Remembrance education and events, we also want people to understand that the Legion is not just about Remembrance; it's also about providing hope for the Armed Forces community of all ages, throughout the year,” said Colonel Brancato who has also made recruitment and the rejuvenation of the branch one of his top priorities.

The election of Colonel Brancato will be subject to confirmation at the next Branch Annual General Meeting which is due to be held later this year

Lt Col (Retd) Brancato commanded the Royal Gibraltar Regiment from 1999-2003. He served in a number of operational areas during his over 28 years of service including Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Cyprus and Belize. He was made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty the Queen in 2003.
