Mar 18 - Unexpected Switch Will See Canepa As Mayor And Kaiane As His Deputy
A motion to appoint the Speaker, Adolfo Canepa, as the next Mayor of Gibraltar will be presented in Parliament on Thursday by the Chief Minister.
The same motion will also propose the appointment of former Miss World Kaiane Aldorino as Deputy Mayor. The tenure of the current Mayor, Tony Lima, ends on 31st March.
The move has surprised many given the previous announcement in 2012 that Tony Lombard, who himself has already served one term as Mayor, would be appointed as Mr Lima’s successor.
