The Mayor Adolfo Canepa will be conferring six Mayor’s Awards at a special Ceremony to be held at City Hall.

Following the new Mayor’s Awards Scheme, the Mayor, along with the board for the Mayor’s Awards, have extended the Awards to be able to widen the nominations to persons or groups who have served Gibraltar in a distinguished manner over a prolonged period and/or for a specific event or achievement.

The Mayor’s Awards committee received a number of nominations for both categories. His Worship is delighted to announce Mayor’s Awards have been conferred as follows:

Mayor’s Gold Award – Leandro Mellado Marquez & Jose Garnica Vasquez

For their prompt action undertaken on the 22nd April 2014, when they went into a flat in Varyl Begg Estate to save Mrs Baglietto from a house fire.

Community Award – Mrs Nina Richardson

For her volunteer work in aid of the elderly who reside at Mount Alvernia. Mrs Richardson has been giving her free time to visit the residents, improving their quality of life.

For the services that they provide for our community spanning almost a century.

Gibraltar Re-enactment Association


For the promotion of Gibraltar’s History and Heritage.


Gibraltar National Dance Organisation (GNDO)


For their contribution to Dance in Gibraltar and Abroad since 1981.
