Jul 08 - Dance Extravaganza Set for August

dance extravaganzaThe Gibraltar National Dance Team has organised ‘A Dance Extravaganza’ to be held at the Ince’s Hall Theatre on Friday 30th August 2013 at 8pm. Produced and directed by GNDO President, Seamus Byrne, the extravaganza will feature performers from both Gibraltar and Spain.

The event will act as a fundraising event in order for the National Team to be able to compete at the forthcoming World Show Dance Championships in November, and the World Ballet, Modern and Jazz Championships in December 2013.

Jul 08 - Gibraltar Wins Gold at Dance World Cup

nicole victor Last week Gibraltar won the Gold Medal at the Dance World Cup staged at the spectacular Brighton Dome in England. The Gold medal was won by Nicole Victor in the Junior Show Dance and Jazz solo sections with a piece ‘My Immortal’ and choreographed by herself.

The 10 strong team competed against thousands of dancers from 26 countries and 5 continents and Gibraltar was represented in the Mini Kids, Children, Junior and Adult divisions.

July 04 - Argus Group Sponsors Gib Team’s Island Games Kits

The Argus Group is pleased to announce that it has kindly donated all the kits for the Gibraltar Team attending this year's XV Island Games in Bermuda.

July 03 - Special Olympics Awareness Programme

To coincide with the UN General Assembly’s upcoming high-level meeting in September regarding the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Special Olympics, the World’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, is embarking on an Awareness Programme targeting policy makers and parliamentarians across Europe and Eurasia.  The Programme will focus on 58 countries within the Special Olympics Europe Eurasia region. The aim of the Awareness Programme is to highlight to Parliamentarians the vital work Special Olympics is doing every single day to improve the lives of millions of people with intellectual disabilities.  This population, of which there are 200 million in the world, often face neglect, unmet health needs, bullying, discrimination and violence in many parts of the world.

Jul 03 - Gibsport Middle School Athletics Championships

gibsportYesterday evening played host to the annual Gibsport Middle School Athletics Championships. The event pulled in an impressive crowd with over 500 youngsters from a spectrum of Middle Schools in Gibraltar, participating. The evening’s events included Discus, high jump, javelin, long jump, shot put, and a series of races of different lengths.

Commenting on the history of the event, Gibsport Editor and organiser of the event, Tony Avellano explained that he started the championships 22 years ago, a year after the inception of the Gibsport publication, as a way to give something back to the sports community of Gibraltar. Speaking on how the event has developed over the years, Mr. Avellano explained that the first year saw only four Middle Schools participate.
